Remember when almonds were considered a “superfood” and many people rushed out to the grocery store to buy them in bulk to have them on their coffee tables for guests to eat? And then when people stopped eating them because of all the water the need to grow? We wanted to look into why almonds (and nuts) were so popular for an extended amount of time.  We also wanted to look into why almonds and almond products were so expensive compared to some other nuts. While analyzing the above information we find the following:

Peanuts, are by far the most economical (cashews are the next most economical, and they are more than double peanuts). Peanuts have less calories than almonds. Peanuts and almonds have the same amount of fat and potassium. Peanuts have more protein and iron than almonds. Peanuts have less fiber, calcium, and magnesium than almonds. Almonds are more than 4 times the price of peanuts.

What can we conclude? Eat the peanuts. Save the water. Don’t always follow food trends, they can be seriously pricey.
